Where to find the shock absorber number?
We know that finding the number of a shock absorber can sometimes be difficult (especially if it has been used and is muddy ;-)) That’s why we have prepared a small cheat sheet for two popular manufacturers.
It is worth providing the number of the part to be serviced, because it can significantly shorten the repair time – from over a month to about 2. weeks.

Cleaning before searching for a number
Before you start looking for the damper number, it is important to thoroughly clean the area where it is located. Accumulated dirt, oil or dust can make it difficult to read the number. Use a damp cloth or, in case of heavier dirt, an agent dedicated to cleaning bicycle parts. Do not use aggressive chemicals.
Disassembly needed to find the shocker number
In some cases, it may be necessary to disassemble certain parts of the suspension to access the shock number. Make sure you have the right tools and knowledge before you begin this task. Unplug any cables and secure them so as not to damage other components. If you are unsure about disassembly, it is recommended to consult a professional.

RockShox offers two types of seatposts – electronically controlled AXS and cable-controlled.

Dampers from the RockShox offer can be divided into two main groups – spring and air. However, in (almost) every case you should look for them in the same place. The exception are the Monarch/Monarch Plus series shocks.

Despite many different models on offer, the serial number can be found in the same place in each case.
Ohlins
In this case, there is a good chance that you know perfectly well what model of shock absorber you have 😉 but if not, you can try to check it, e.g. by visually comparing it with the product catalog.
